Too Good To Go to fight food waste together

When we opened our pop up shop, The Green House, operating as a retail outlet when the hotel was closed meant we had surplus unsold produce available on a daily basis. The food was perfect but could not be sold the following day and so we searched for a partner to help us find a good home for the food. We signed up to Too Good to Go.

The new partnership enables surplus food from the shop, to be available for sale through the Too Good To Go app. For £4, app users can rescue a variety of Whatley provisions worth at least £12 – from loaves and quiche to cakes and muffins.

For every 50 meals saved we save 125 CO2 which helps towards our key business sustainability goals set out by Earth Check.

Too Good To Go lets people buy surplus food and drink from hotels, pubs, restaurants, retailers and producers to stop it from going to waste. Consumers simply download the free Too Good To Go app and search for nearby businesses with unsold produce. They then purchase a ‘Magic Bag’ of surplus produce, collect it at an allotted time and enjoy it.

The intention is for the partnership to be rolled out further in the coming months to ensure surplus food from the dining rooms can also be part of the ” Magic Bag”

On the partnership, Paschalis Loucaides, UK Country Manager of Too Good To Go, said: “I’m thrilled that Whatley Manor has joined us in the fight against food waste. The hotel has a real focus on sustainability and so our partnership is a natural fit. The produce created to be sold in The Green House deserve to be eaten and I’m pleased that by working together we can make sure our users enjoy every bite whilst doing something great for the planet.”

ABOUT TOO GOOD TO GO

Too Good To Go has a simple mission: to make sure all food gets eaten, not wasted.

In 2016, a group of entrepreneurs witnessed restaurant staff throwing away fresh food. The food’s only problem? It hadn’t sold in time, and no one was around to take it off the restaurant’s hands. The group pioneered a seamless solution: an app that lists businesses’ unsold food so local diners can find, buy and enjoy it.

Now, thousands of Magic Bags are rescued from businesses such as supermarkets, restaurants, and bakeries every day. The success of the app powers Too Good To Go’s wider efforts to drive a food waste movement, working with schools, industries and governments to build a planet-friendly food system.
