Join expert potters, Annabel and Alan Cusack from Honeybourne Pottery, a charming family-run studio nestled on the edge of the North Cotswolds for one of their creative Botanical Plaster Casting Workshops here at Whatley Manor. Honeybourne Pottery offers relaxed, beginner-friendly experiences that blend creativity with calm, mindful focus. Their workshops are designed for people of all abilities and provide a hands-on opportunity to explore the beauty of working with clay and natural materials in a supportive, welcoming setting.

Timings:

  • 11am arrival
  • 11.15am Garden Walk 11.30am Workshop to begin
  • 2pm Workshop to finish

The workshop begins with a walk around the beautiful gardens of Whatley Manor where you will be given the opportunity to pick your own flowers and foliage. You will then head to our outdoor workshop space, the loggia whereby you will be given a step-by-step demonstration, where you’ll learn how to prepare and roll out clay to form the base for your artwork. Next, you’ll be guided on arranging flowers and foliage on the clay’s surface, pressing them into best capture all their delicate textures and details. Feel free to bring cuttings from your own garden for a personal touch.

Once your botanical design is complete, you’ll create a mould, mix and pour plaster over your clay impression. While the plaster sets (about 30 minutes), we’ll pause for some light refreshments, and you’ll be guided through how to finish your piece. Then to the exciting part of peeling away the clay to reveal your beautiful floral cast – pure magic!

Good to know –

You will be in an outdoor, undercover, workshop environment, so please wear practical clothes & footwear that you don’t mind getting a little messy. Aprons are provided for your use.

Each tile is created by hand, using seasonal flowers that are ever changing. As with all handmade processes, results will naturally vary and perfect imperfections add to the unique character of your piece.
