As a business Whatley Manor handles a substantial amount of plastic packaging and wrapping on a daily basis. A lot of this is hidden plastic, wrapping a newspaper or packaging around small items that come into the administration offices. It quickly became apparent that this plastic packaging was going to mount up quite quickly and we wanted to have an easy way of recycling it.
Ecobricks has been a perfect solution for the office teams. An Ecobrick is a plastic bottle packed to a set density with used, clean and dry plastic to achieve a building block that can be used over and over again. Ecobricks can also be packed with other non-biological un-recyclables that uncontained, are toxic to the environment, e.g. Styrofoam or small batteries. By saving, segregating and packing plastics into bottles, we are making building blocks that can be reused over and over again.
Ecobricks are used to make modular furniture, garden spaces, walls and even full-scale buildings.
The Ecobrick concept has been an exciting way for the team to see the impact of recycling and understand how much unnecessary plastic passes through our hands on a daily basis.
