Whatley Manor is delighted to announce they have achieved the Silver accreditation from EarthCheck for the second consecutive year in 2023!
EarthCheck, is the world’s leading environmental certification and benchmarking program for the travel and tourism industry.
As the first luxury country house hotel in the UK to receive the accolade twice this is an exceptional achievement. The Whatley team are committed to achieving environmental and social sustainability within the hotel without compromising on the quality of the guest experience.
Since the hotel embarked on this journey there has been a tremendous effort to implement initiatives to reduce environmental impact in areas like energy use, water consumption, and waste production while enhancing biodiversity in the grounds.
Between 2017 and 2022 we have already reduced greenhouse gas emissions from Scope 1 and Scope 2 by 80%. We understand that reducing our emissions from Scope 3 sources is more complex, accounting for 82.3% of your total footprint.
As a responsible business, our ambitious sustainability goals include a 95% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions and a 90% reduction in Scope 3 emissions by 2035 compared to our 2019 baseline.
Whilst the team are incredibly proud of their achievements they acknowledge there is still so much work to be done. They are working towards a Gold EarthCheck accreditation alongside their Scope 1, 2 and 3 goals. This will take continued commitment and the support of suppliers and key stakeholders.
Sue Williams will continue to lead the sustainability role at Whatley and use her knowledge and commitment to drive the business forward to achieve their goals, the hotel will also continue to work with Now Sustainability to support their journey.
